About Us

Hello,

I’m Kim and I live in a 400+ year old thatched cottage in the heart of Suffolk. I have a deep connection to Suffolk and my family have lived in Suffolk for many generations. I was excited to learn that my DNA confirms that my ancestors settled in Britain from northern and western Europe, Denamrk (which corresponds with the history of Suffolk!) and with a small part from Scotland, Ireland, Devon and Somerset.

Just like that, I seem to have reached the ‘Crone’ season of life. I was born in 1966 and I think I know a thing or two about life and all the stuff that goes with being as old as I am. But that’s not to say I don’t like to learn new things. I often look into new ideas and innovations. I see what goes on the world, but try not to get too bogged down with that as I find myself getting angry at the evil things going on and the many injustices, then I feel depressed that there is little I can do about it (which I understand is exactly what the system wants!). So, I find myself distrustful of many of the ‘powers that be’ and am very inclined to take my use of technology back a notch or two, and go ‘retro’ much to my family’s amusement!

I have a degree in History, a fascination with psychology and the esoteric and a love for nature and beauty. I have a passion for research, decor, crafting, upcycling, growing my own food, and finding ways to live better. I love to research the old ways of the people of Suffolk as far back as I can and think about how they lived in harmony with nature and how this might help us now. I explore this in my website Suffolklore.

I used to have an online curiosity shop and acquired some interesting and curious objects. Those which I found the most interesting stayed with me and became decor pieces in my home. You’ll see them feature in some of the posts on this site. The other items I kept were the ones which sparked my interest in magic and the occult. Things like books, ephemera, masonic, ritual, religious, relics and other pieces. The esoteric – including things like ancient orders, alchemy, and various forms of mysticism, became one of my research passions. I am intrigued by the art of fortune telling through history and an item that I came across which intrigued me was a glass 32 sided dice which came from Czechoslovakia in the early 20th century used for divination. I began to collect these rare and wonderful fortune telling pieces and have a website devoted to them, crystalfortunedice.com

I have been married to Mark since 1988 and we have two grown up sons. Stray cats seem to ‘move in’ and our current resident, Morry, is a sweet and gentle black male who we believe is about three years old. He’s a little fragile and nervous as the big bad alpha Bengal (we call him Benny) who lives down the road comes round and bullies him, although we do chase him away when we can.

Other Projects

Suffolklore

Suffolklore is a website I’ve just started. I have lived in Suffolk all my life, have been a local historian for years and a collector of all things Suffolk. I now enjoy my own library of books and ephemera all about Suffolk and am widening my research into the old stories, customs and traditions that come from Suffolk. It’s such a joy to be living in a thatched cottage which is over 400 years old and love to find out how the first people who resided in my home lived, worked, managed day to day, how they thought and what they believed in. I know now that it wasn’t just the church, which held people’s imagination, magic belief and ritual were part of everyday life

King James I of England and James VI of Scotland had just become the monarch when our cottage was built and he hated and feared witches! He believed that witches tried to kill him when he brought his wife back from Denmark and sailed into a terrible storm which almost killed him and his new wife. Shakespeare took the story of King James’ fear of witches and made ‘MacBeth’.

“Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.”

It is said that the weather was is still something that can be controlled by witches…

Crystal Fortune Dice

A few years back I had my own Curiosity Shop. The items I had in there inspired me to look into magic, the occult, divination and all things esoteric. I came across a small crystal ball made in Czechoslovakia which had 32 sides. It took me a while to discover exactly what it was, but once I did, I was hooked.

I’ve spent the last few years collecting these magical pieces and I’ve made a website dedicated to them: Crystal Fortune Dice.

I hope to have some up for sale soon. After I’ve carried out a bit of magic on them!

Thank you for being here.
