About Us
Hello,
I’m Kim and I live in a 400+ year old thatched cottage in the heart of Suffolk just outside of Stowmarket. I have a deep connection to Suffolk and my family have lived in Suffolk for many generations. I was excited to learn that my DNA confirms that my ancestors settled in Britain from Denmark and Northern Europe (which corresponds with the history of Suffolk!) with a tiny but important 2% from Scotland.
I have a degree in History, a fascination with psychology, nature, the esoteric and a passion to research the old ways of the earlier people of Suffolk and how they could affect us now. I have been married to Mark since 1988 and we have two grown up sons and a black cat who mysteriously arrived a couple of years ago and stayed (don’t worry, he didn’t belong to anyone else). His name is Morry which puzzles the vets, but I orginally thought he was a girl because of his gentle nature and called him Morrigan, luckily shortening the name to Morry worked out unbelievably well! The name means dark-skinned as as he’s black it seems just right.

Suffolklore

Suffolklore is a website I’ve just started. I have lived in Suffolk all my life, have been a local historian for years and a collector of all things Suffolk. I now enjoy a large library of books and ephemera all about Suffolk and am widening my research into the old stories, customs and traditions that come from Suffolk. It’s such a joy to be living in a thatched cottage which is over 400 years old and I want to know how the first people lived, worked and what they believed in.
King James I of England and James VI of Scotland had just become the monarch when our cottage was built and do you know what else he was famous for? Hating witches! He believed that witches tried to kill him when he brought his wife back from Denmark and sailed into a terrible storm which almost killed him and his new wife. Shakespeare took the story of King James’ fear of witches and made ‘MacBeth’.
“Double, double, toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.”
It is said that the weather was is still something that can be controlled by witches…

Crystal Fortune Dice

A few years back I had my own Curiosity Shop. The items I had in there inspired me to look into magic, the occult, divination and all things esoteric. I came across a small crystal ball made in Czechoslovakia which had 32 sides. It took me a while to discover excatly what it was but once I did, I was hooked.
I’ve spent the last few years collecting these magical pieces and I’ve made a website dedicated to them: Crystal Fortune Dice.
I hope to have some up for sale soon. After I’ve carried out a bit of magic on them!
Thank you for being here.
