Put a Little Bit of Magic into Your Life
Over the last few years I’ve been on a journey and one of the things I learned from my therapist was to embrace the child within me. This has been by far the most rewarding thing I’ve done. But I had to do it in stages in order to fully accept the child me inmto the adult me.
It’s a sad state of affaris that we live in today. The child part of us is beaten down and told to shut up and behave and we do it because we fear looking silly. To bring that part of us back into our lives is very difficult but if we remember the childhood curiosity, wonder and sense of fun a little at a time, it can be achieved and make our lives much more rewarding.
I began my journey with a movie my therapist recommended. It’s called ‘If You Believe’ and it’s about a grumpy young woman who bumps her head and sees life through her seven year old self. It’s a heartwarming movie and makes you think about loving and caring for your inner child.
After watching that movie, I began to think about my inner child and how she didn’t get much of a childhood. I decided that I would give her what had been missing and it’s gone way further than I thought. I’m now living life the way I should have done years ago. I don’t follow (many) rules, I like to do things my own way and I love bringing magic into my life.
Here are afew ways I like to care for my inner child by bringing a little magic into my life:
- Fairy lights – I just love them. They can make any space look magical and I have lots of sets which i change around whenever the mood takes me.
- Using colour – I chucked the rule book out of the window when it came to colour. I used to wear black and my home was beige. Now I wear lots of different colours depending on my mood and where I’m going. I do still wear black sometimes!
- Have fun with decor – My home is a reflection of my inner child; colourful and quirky with a little bit of magic.
- Crafting – I love crafting and I do something crafty every day even if it’s just re-vamping items and curios on a table top, painting a box or making a cake. This is something that everyone has in them, they just need to try a few things out until they find something that fits them.
- Don’t conform to other people’s ideas – make your own decisions based on your likes and dislikes, not what somebody on social media or TV tells you is fashionable! It’s so freeing.
- Do something silly – dance around the table, sing into your hairbrush, talk in a silly voice to your cat. Nobody has to see you, do what makes you happy.
- Watch a fantasy TV programme or movie – what’s your favourite type of movie? Chanves are if the hero of the story is a child or teenager this is what you need to watch. Then bring a little bit of into your life.
